Murgon cricketer Courtney Sippel has topped off a big few weeks by being named in the Australian Under 19 women’s team which will tour New Zealand in March.
Courtney was part of the winning Queensland team which defeated a Cricket Australia XI at the U18 National Championships, played at Wendouree in Victoria on Thursday.
She took the vital wicket of opener Kayla Burton who scored a duck, helping Queensland secure third spot in the championship.
Fellow player Renee Irvine also did well for Queensland in the match.
The duo was also part of the winning Queensland Under 18 T20 team which took out the final against a combined ACT / NSW Country team at the national championships in Bendigo on January 19.
Courtney again starred with the bat, finishing 31 not out, and Renee claimed a wicket off just two overs.
Queensland won by seven wickets.
The two girls have been playing cricket together for an amazing 11 seasons, starting in Murgon junior teams.
Late last year, Courtney won a contract to play with the Brisbane Heat in the WBBL and is currently part of their development squad.
In 2017, Renee set a record as the youngest player to debut with the Heat when she filled in for an injured Holly Ferling.
