The last time Neighbourhood Watch decided to “Turn The Screws On Crime” in the South Burnett, the Kingaroy event proved very popular.
So they’ve decided to do it again, this time in Murgon as well as Kingaroy.
The sad fact is that having a number plate stolen can be a real headache … and it’s a crime that can easily be prevented.
Thieves target number plates for many reasons: to disguise vehicles during petrol drive-offs, during robberies, and in the vain hope that police won’t notice the wrong plates are fixed to an unregistered vehicle.
The theft always causes a headache for the car owner: new plates have to be bought, insurance companies notified … and then there’s the speed camera fines which can arrive in the mail.
The way to beat number plate thefts is with special anti-theft screws.
These can be tightened but cannot be removed except with special tools (and no, you can’t buy these tools at your local store!)
Kumbia Neighbourhood Watch and Murgon Neighbourhood Watch are hosting two “Turning The Screws On Crime” events soon.
One-way screws will be fitted to vehicles by Queensland Police and Neighbourhood Watch volunteers.
The dates for the two events are:
- Murgon – February 23, 9:00am to noon, opposite Clifton Motors in Macalister Street (gold coin donation – proceeds to support Murgon Neighbourhood Watch)
- Kingaroy – Saturday, March 2, 8:30am to 12:30pm, beside Kingaroy Repco in Youngman Street (gold coin donation – proceeds to support Kumbia Neighbourhood Watch)
