Firefighters sprung into action when a blaze broke out near a forestry area at South Nanango on Saturday afternoon.

The fire, which is believed to have spread from a burning timber stack, was reported about 2:35pm near McGillivray Road.

Eight fire crews were called to the incident, including rural volunteers plus Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) and HQ Plantations workers.

Backburning and earthmoving machinery were used to contain the fire.

Fire crews returned to the site about 9:00am on Sunday and reported the area had been safely blacked out.
