In the space of just four hours last week, police seized three illegal tasers in Kingaroy in separate incidents.

On Tuesday, December 4:

  • At 8:25am, police had occasion to speak to and then search a man in William Street. Police allegedly located a taser, amphetamine, and drug utensils.
  • At 10:30am, police executed a search warrant at a Buckingham Street address. Here they allegedly located three drug pipes, clip seal bags and a taser.
  • At 12.30pm, police attended an address in Burnett Street where they allegedly located a taser, drug utensils, a pipe and scales.

A 33-year-old Kingaroy man, a 29-year-old Kingaroy man and a 34-year-old Kingaroy woman have been charged in relation to the separate incidents and will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 7.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant David Tierney, warned residents it was not only unlawful to possess tasers – whether they were professional or home made – but it was also unlawful to sell, buy and/or import them.

The weapons are classed as a Category R weapon under the Weapons Act 1990 and can be be extremely dangerous when misused.
