Cherbourg Aboriginal Council’s corporate services manager Chatur Zala has been named 2018 Queensland Finance Professional of the Year.
Zala was presented with the award last Thursday night at the Local Government Finance Professionals Association of Queensland (LGFP) annual conference, held on the Gold Coast.
The LGFP represents financial and accounting professionals at local councils across Queensland.
Their three-day annual conference is the flagship event for the organisation and this year’s event attracted 300 accounting professionals from 77 Queensland councils.
Zala said it was very pleasing after working hard at Cherbourg to be recognised by his peers.
He was presented with the award by LGFP president Tony Brett at a gala dinner.
As well as a plaque, Zala was presented with $2500 to undertake study tours at other councils.
Zala has worked at Cherbourg Council for eight years.
Prior to that he was at Kowanyama Aboriginal Council and an accounting firm in Mt Isa.
