The first day of the four-day The Waterhole Rocks rock’n’roll campout weekend roared into life on Thursday at Nanango Showgrounds.
The festival is devoted to all things associated with 1950s and 1960s rock’n’roll.
This year’s event is marking the 40th anniversary of the death of Aussie rock’n’roll icon, “the Wild One” Johnny O’Keefe.
JOK, as he was universally known, dominated the Australian music scene during the late 1950s and throughout the 1960s.
His last chart success was in 1977, a year before his death.
The Waterhole Rocks is all about dancing – there’s even a special dancefloor laid just for the weekend! – so it’s no surprise there are also rock’n’roll dance lessons sprinkled throughout the program.
Entry to the festival is $10 on Thursday, $20 on Friday or Saturday, and free on Sunday (or a weekend pass costs $40).
On Sunday, there will also be a special show’n’shine held in the Showgrounds ring from 9:00am to noon ($10 to enter a vehicle).
