The market for high quality cattle has remained firm, despite drought conditions in some areas

Export and feedlot types sold to very strong rates at the Murgon Saleyards on Tuesday, with agents yarding 650 head.

Numbers were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Mt Perry, Biggenden, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and the Murgon district.

Sale results:

  • Heavy Bulls topped at $2.67/kg for $2030
  • Bullocks sold to $2.96/kg and $1730
  • Heavy Cows also sold to dearer rates, topping at $2.50/kg and $1560
  • Cows over 500kg averaged $2.40/kg
  • Cows 400–500kg sold to $2.43/kg, averaging $2.10/kg
  • Lighter Cows under 400kg sold to a top of $2.00/kg
  • 480kg Hereford steers from Manumbar sold to $2.88/kg to return $1386
  • Angus steers from Mt McEuen sold to $2.70/kg at 434kg for $1170
  • 410kg Droughtmaster steers from Proston sold to $1100 at $2.68/kg
  • Charbray steers 345kg ex Stuart River sold for $915 at $2.65/kg
  • Droughtmaster weaner steers from Windera sold to $736 for 273kg and $2.69/kg
  • 2 pens of Droughtmaster weaner steers from Jondarby in Gayndah sold for $616 and $585, both at $2.67/kg
  • Charbray weaner steers from Mt Perry sold for $2.60/kg and $639, and $2.63/kg for $545
  • 440kg Droughtmaster Heifers sold to $1130 at $2.55/kg
  • 3 pens of Hereford cross heifers from Manumbar sold for $2.67/kg ($907), $2.65/kg ($1000) and $2.62/kg ($983)
  • 327kg Hereford heifers from Murgon sold to $2.61/kg for $854
  • 280kg Hereford heifers from Wondai sold to $2.40/kg to return $672
  • Braford cross weaner heifers from Mt Perry sold for $694 at $2.36/kg
  • 3 pens of Charbray weaner heifers also from Mt Perry sold for $2.35/kg to average 220kg and $500
  • Most better quality weaner heifers sold from $2.10/kg to $2.30/kg
