The Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program – designed to improve mobile phone communications in regional and remote communities – has reopened its database briefly for nominations of locations which require fixing.

The database was reopened last Thursday to accept nominations for four weeks under the $25 million Round 4 of the program.

Members of the public have been encouraged to report their coverage issues to their local council or Federal representatives as soon as  possible.

Federal MPs who cover the South Burnett are David Littleproud (Maranoa), Ken O’Dowd (Flynn) and Llew O’Brien (Wide Bay).

Nominations to the database can be made by Councils, the State Government and Federal MPs.

The competitive selection process for Round 4 of the program is expected to begin later this year.

Llew O’Brien encouraged Wide Bay residents to contact his office as soon as possible with nominations.

“This presents a real opportunity for our Wide Bay community to have their say on mobile black spots and encourage mobile operators to invest in our area through the program,” he said.

“The nominations will support Round 4 of the program which will look to provide new or improved mobile coverage in areas where there are clear economic and social benefits.

“Round 4 will also look to target medical, educational and emergency services facilities, as well as along key transport routes and in towns that experience seasonal demand due to tourism.”
