Forty riders from 11 local schools took part in the 2018 South Burnett Equestrian Challenge held at the Kingaroy Showgrounds last week.
The event – which is now in its sixth year – is organised by St Mary’s Catholic College to coincide with Catholic Education Week but invitations to take part are sent to all schools in the South Burnett region.
Event organiser John Dalton said students from Crawford, Kingaroy, Taabinga and Wheatlands State schools; Dalby, Murgon and Nanango State High schools; Goomeri P-10; St Mary’s Catholic College, Kingaroy; St John’s Lutheran School, Kingaroy; and St Joseph’s Catholic School, Gayndah, took part in this year’s competition.
Events included bending, dressage, jumping and hacking.
Points were awarded across age groups:
Age 5-7 Years
- Champion – Ellie Gollan, ‘Eclipsed by Oakie’ (Goomeri P-10)
- Reserve (tie) – Georgie Forrest, ‘Christa’ (Goomeri P-10); Georgia Tilley, ‘Baloo’ (Taabinga SS); and Ava Tilley, ‘Moody Blue’ (Taabinga SS)
Age 8-9 Years
- Champion (tie) – Addison Cooke, ‘Clancy’ (Goomeri P-10); and Rhys O’Toole, ‘Diesel’ (Taabinga SS)
- Reserve – Lucy Needer, ‘Dolly’ (Kingaroy SS)
10-12 Years
- Champion – Jordyn O’Toole, ‘Cougar’ (Taabinga SS)
- Reserve (tie) – Kaitlyn Smith, ‘Oracle’ (Nanango SHS); and Zoe Hoskinson, ‘Thomas’ ( St Joseph’s, Gayndah)
13-14 Years
- Champion – Taylor Cunningham, ‘Wannaroo Indiana’ (Goomeri P-10)
- Reserve – Molly Wernecke, ‘Rocky’ (St Mary’s CC)
15-18 Years
- Champion – Renee Irvine, ‘Pilot’ (St Mary’s CC)
- Reserve – Jacinta Rockemer, ‘Yulgilbar Vailima’ (Goomeri P-10)
