Kingaroy singer-songwriter Laudy, who is probably better known to her South Burnett fans as Laura Limb or Laura J. – will be releasing her first single in Brisbane this Wednesday, June 27.
Laura will be performing “Lioness” and other songs from her forthcoming EP at the City Sounds Showcase in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall from 5:00pm.
Laura was a finalist in this year’s Big Break talent competition hosted by Kingaroy’s Commercial Hotel, where she wowed audiences with her unique electonica/indie rock sound. And she’s performed several other gigs in the South Burnett this year, too.
But she’s no musical amateur.
Laura began songwriting at the age of 13, performing her originals at school talent concerts, before going on to study music at university in Brisbane.
During this time she played shows at Brisbane’s top live music venue The Zoo in bands she formed with her peers.
But when self-doubt began to creep in, Laura abandoned music for several years until she discovered an online songwriting club – I Heart Songwriting – which re-fired her passion and saw her return to her to music and songwriting again.
Her debut single was written as part of her involvement with this songwriting club.
Laura, whose musical roots are in classical piano, said she draws inspiration for her lyrics from the feminine strength she sees emerging in the world around her, as well as her own personal journey of self discovery.
Her appearance at the City Sounds Showcase will be her first big attempt at chasing a lifelong dream of being a recording artist.
“I hope to show other locals they don’t have to live in a major city to release their own music,” Laura said.
Laura’s “Lioness” single will be available for download on iTunes, Spotify and Bandcamp from this Friday.
More details are available on Laura’s Facebook page.
