A truck driver is recovering in hospital after he was trapped inside the cab of his over-turned prime mover for more than six hours on Tuesday.

The vehicle was laden with cattle when it left the road and overturned on Auburn Road at Auburn, north of Chinchilla.

The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was despatched to the scene just after 9:30am following reports of a truck rollover.

Firefighters had to use cutting equipment to free the man from the crushed cabin.

The aeromedical team worked alongside QAS paramedics to stabilise the man before flying him to Toowoomba Hospital for treatment.

He was transported in a serious but stable condition.
