The Burrandowan Picnic Race Club will be holding its 96th annual race meeting at the Burrandowan Racecourse 66km west of Kingaroy this Saturday, May 12.

Crowds have been gathering at Burrandowan on the second Saturday in May since 1922 to take in the atmosphere of a true bush picnic race meeting.

This year’s get-together will feature all the meeting’s favourite features, along with a few surprises.

These include a large Fashions Of The Field competition, a high tea inside historic Burrandowan Hall and pre-packed picnic hampers (both of which need to be ordered in advance from the Burrandowan Races website).

The race itself generates funds for worthy causes – this year it’s RACQ LifeFlight – and many food and drink outlets on the course are run by local service clubs to assist their own community projects.

A shuttle bus will be running from Kingaroy and overnight camping is available at the track.

The day will start with clay target shooting at 9:00am.

Racing begins at 1:30pm and there’s a five-race card.

And after the last race is run at 4:30pm, the course’s pit-fired BBQs will light up and there’ll be live entertainment from the Kingaroy State High School Band and Risa that will run until late into the night.

Patrons are reminded that there are no ATMs and no mobile coverage at the track, so they should bring cash.

Police have urged Burrandowan racegoers to have fun but to remember they will be out on the roads, so don’t drink and drive.
