The Grand Final of the South Burnett’s local senior cricket competition will be played on Saturday at Murgon State High School.

The 40-over match between Cherbourg and the Blackbutt Timbertowners is scheduled to get under way at 12:30pm at the Murgon State High School oval.

Spectators are more than welcome to come along and watch the cricketers in action!

This is the second year in a row that Cherbourg has earned a spot in the B Grade Grand Final, and captain Barry Fisher is keen to go that one step better this year.

The team lost by just nine runs to Murgon Diggers last year in a nail-biting finish at Murgon Showgrounds.

Play in Day 2 of the Gympie A Grade Grand Final between Southern District Devils (Kingaroy) and the Murgon Crusaders will resume at 10:30am on Saturday in Gympie.

Murgon opened the batting last Saturday, and were all out for 193.

Top scorers were Jason Webber (65) and Troy Dennien (50).

The best of the Devils’ bowlers was Dean Olzard with 3/30.

In reply, Kingaroy were travelling well at 3/92 before losing quick wickets and slumping to 7/114.

Luke Smith and Tony Dugdell (60) then put on a solid partnership to reach 8/190.

Kingaroy finished with 214, avoiding a first innings result, and taking a handy 21-run lead.

When play resumes on Saturday, Murgon are 4/138, leading by 117 runs.

Webber is 50 not out.

Kingaroy took the first innings points so the Crusaders will be pushing for an outright win.
