The finals of the Big Break talent quest will be held in Kingaroy this Thursday night (March 8), and organisers say they’ll be something to see.
“We have had an amazing roll up of extraordinary talent from around the region,” compere Michael Monk said on Monday.
“We’ve also seen an eclectic mix of genres and styles, ranging from Hip Hop MCs, acoustic folk/punk fusion, rock guitarists, pub rockers, country artists, and amazing a capella vocalists.
“All our talent were well supported by friends and family.”
Michael said the competition had also been a great opportunity for entrants to network with other musicians.
“From my perspective, this competition has served a number of purposes,” he said.
“It has encouraged local aspiring artists out of the bedroom and onto the stage, and it’s also given the management at The Com Pub a chance to take a look at performers that we might like to offer some gigs to, moving forward.”
The finals will be held in the beer garden of Kingaroy’s Commercial Hotel from 7:00pm, and this Thursday’s winners will be chosen by peoples choice and by a judges decision.
Two acts from the finals night will be selected to join in this coming Saturday night to play support to Olivia Ruth (2012 Big Break Winner and a crowd favourite) along with her band at the hotel’s “Wine and Food” after party, which will start around 8:00pm.
The line up for the Big Break finals is:
- Laura Limb – keyboards and vocals
- Jordan Chapman – acoustic guitar
- Nate Tessman (MC Wheels) – Hip Hop MC
- Gabbee Heckendorf – vocalist
- Cassandra Murphy – alternative acoustic
- Dean Watterson – electric rock guitar
- Paula Jayne – acoustic country
