Birthday girl Jean Black and her daughter Alison Otto were surprised by a visit from South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell

March 4, 2018

A group of 30 seniors gathered at SBcare recently to celebrate the 99th birthday of their oldest client.

Well-known Kingaroy Quota Club member Jean Black noted she was the same age as the Quota Club, but still remained an active member of that group.

One highlight of the birthday celebrations was the presentation of letters of congratulations from Queensland Governor Paul de Jersey and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington.

Another was a surprise visit from South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell, a long-time friend who dropped in to wish her a happy birthday in person.

“When you speak with Jean, she always makes you feel better,” Mayor Campbell said.

“Our culture doesn’t recognise the great value of elders the way Indigenous culture does, and I think we should work to change that.”

SBcare management board member Craig Lucas said it was a thrill to have Jean in SBcare.

“Thank you all,” Jean replied.

“I’m looking forward to being here next year, too.”
