Member for Nanango, Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington, has called for harsher penalties for weapons offences.
“The LNP welcomes calls for stronger penalties for gun crime,” she said on Wednesday.
“Stronger penalties for gun crime was part of our policy at the last State Election.
“Queensland currently has some of the weakest penalties in Australia in relation to stealing or theft of a firearm.
“We increased penalties for gun crime when we were last in government, including mandatory jail time for unlawful supply, trafficking and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“We think these are common sense reforms that put community safety first.
“Our hard-working police need tougher powers to crack down on these criminals.”
