The Leukaemia Foundation is inviting South Burnett workplaces to “colour up for a cure” during this year’s World’s Greatest Shave on March 14-18.
Last financial year the Foundation provided 4622 nights accommodation to South Burnett and Sunshine Coast families undergoing their daily treatments in Brisbane at a cost of $369,760.
It also provided many other free programs including transporting patients to and from their treatments; financial assistance; counselling; treatment education; and support programs.
Roughly 35 Australians – and an average seven Queenslanders – are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma every day.
Right now, blood cancers are killing more Queenslanders than breast cancer and skin cancer.
In Queensland, leukaemia is also the most common childhood diagnosis – 44 per cent of all cancer diagnoses in childhood.
While the Leukaemia Foundation is investing heavily in working towards a cure, it prides itself on being there to hold sufferers’ hands through the entire journey, improving quality of life in the darkest times of their and their families lives.
But they can’t do this without the support of the public.
On Tuesday the Foundation called on South Burnett workplaces to get behind this year’s World’s Greatest Shave by temporarily colouring their hair.
“You can also shave, cut or wax your hair, but even having a fun colourful day at work is a great idea,” fundraising officer Lillian Tebbutt said.
“Just sign up online at www.worldsgreatestshave.com
“We will be in touch by phone not long after to see how we can assist you in your fundraising.
“The World’s Greatest Shave is only 3 weeks away, so now is the time to register.
“Keep in mind it is also okay to do the event whenever suits your workplace schedule best, please also remember to register yourself as a workplace team when entering your details.”
Lillian can also be contacted on (07) 5430-6609 or 0423-298-916.
