South Burnett tourism operators, wineries, and cellar doors have been urged to join a new national effort to attract more international wine tourists to Australia.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien encouraged local businesses to apply to the Federal Government’s $5 million International Wine Tourism Competitive Grants program to work together to develop unique and innovative wine tourism experiences.

“This presents opportunities for local businesses to bolster their market share and grow their reputation,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The grants will help fund programs to attract international tourists to the region with wine tourism marketing campaigns, wine events, infrastructure and innovative products.”

The grants are being administered by Wine Australia and are part of the Federal Government’s $50 million Export and Regional Wine Support Package, a one–off program which aims to grow the Australian wine sector by showcasing the nation’s wine tourism offerings and driving demand for wine exports.

Applications for the International Wine Tourism Competitive Grants program close on March 2.
