Goomeri Show Society has received a $16,362 Federal Government grant to upgrade the kitchen and bar at Goomeri Showgrounds.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the grant would cover new benchtops, sinks, cupboards, a gas hot water system, a new cook top and oven and a large new cold room.

The funding has come from Round 3 of the Stronger Communities Program.

“The kitchen and bar are used by a wide range of community organisations in the Goomeri area, so the whole community will benefit throughout the year, not just at show time,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This funding means the kitchen will be better-equipped and safer for volunteers.”

South Burnett towns have received a number of Stronger Communities grants over the past few months:

  • Murgon Lions Club’s new food van – $13,662
  • A new computer server for Graham House – $9917
  • New doors and windows to weatherproof the barn at the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum at Murgon – $2500
  • Kilkivan Men’s Shed to construct a shed – $17,998
  • Castra at Murgon to extend its car parking spaces – $14,147
  • South Burnett Regional Council for new playground equipment at Rotary Park in Murgon – $20,000
  • South Burnett Regional Council for a new toilet block at Memerambi – $20,000
  • SBcare in Kingaroy for air-conditioning the community hall – $22,000
  • SBcare in Wondai towards the purchase of a vehicle for Meals On Wheels – $8250

Mr O’Brien said the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program was designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000.

Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year.

“These community groups are providing valuable services to the community, and I’m pleased to be able to support their works with these Stronger Communities Program grants,” Mr O’Brien said.
