The clever ladies at the Cooinda Craft Group have been at it again … this time making more than 40 toys for babies and children at Kingaroy Hospital.

Earlier this year, the Cooinda women joined with the Nanango Country Quilters to make almost 30 quilts for teenage patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments at the Lady Cilento Hospital in Brisbane.

They then turned their attention to young patients in Kingaroy and started sewing, knitting and crocheting.

The results of two months’ work were presented to the Kingaroy Hospital Director of Nursing Liz Livingstone on Friday morning – everything from baby-sized soft toys to a huge dog for an older child.

Liz said the toys would be given to children admitted to the hospital and also to new babies.

South Burnett Regional Council gave Cooinda a $500 Community Grant to cover the costs, but only a portion was spent on the toys project.

So the women are now back working on quilts, this time for foster children in the South Burnett.

Cooinda meets on Monday mornings from 9:00am to 1:30pm at the Town Common Hall in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy.
