Students from eight South Burnett schools gathered in the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt on Saturday morning as part of “Music: Count Us In”, one of the largest annual musical events in Australia.

Every year about 600,000 students from schools across Australia are involved in the activity.

In the South Burnett, singers from Coolabunia, Crawford, Kingaroy, Kumbia, Proston, Taabinga and Wheatlands State schools and Kingaroy State High School took part.

Proud parents gathered in the forecourt to listen to the performance.

Principal Susan Beatty, from Taabinga State School, and Ross Deards, from Kumbia State School, helped to organise the South Burnett event along with music teachers Ginny Salmon and Jill Cartmill.

About 180 students stood side-by-side on the Town Hall steps to form the massed choir.

The idea for “Music: Count Us In” is that students across Australia sing the same song, at the same time if possible.

This year’s song was “Shine Together”.
