A group of some of Brisbane’s top musicians, playing some of the world’s most unusual classical instruments, visited Kingaroy recently as part of a tour of regional Queensland.

The Brisbane Bells held a workshop at the Maryknoll Centre for local residents interested in bell-ringing.

South Burnett Catholic College music teacher Jane Iszlaub said 17 people turned up to have a go at playing the specially tuned classical handbells.

The regional tour, which is also taking in Bundaberg and Rockhampton, is a prelude to the group’s performance as part of the Spirit of Christmas concert at the Queensland Performing Arts Complex in December, and the International Handbell Symposium in Cairns in 2018.

After the workshop, the Brisbane Bells put on a concert for music lovers, also in the Maryknoll Centre.

Local singer Ashleigh Reinbott sang a few songs in accompaniment to the bellringers.

The visiting Brisbane Bells troupe consisted of 12 bell ringers ringing special tuned handbells
