South Burnett residents have been encouraged to apply for a $5000 scholarship to study at TAFE in 2018.
The scholarship payments can be used to meet any cost associated with study including tuition, study materials and equipment, or to reduce the cost of living expenses.
Two different types of scholarships are on offer:
- Merit scholarships, which are awarded to students who can demonstrate that they will do well in the industry in which they apply for a scholarship; and ..
- Access and equity scholarships, which provide equitable access to study at TAFE Queensland. They are awarded to students who can demonstrate a genuine interest in and commitment to their chosen career, who identify with one or more of the following categories:
- Of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Has significant caring responsibilities
- Has a disability or long-term medical condition or illness
- Long-term unemployed (for a period greater than 6 months)
- A sole parent
- Suffering significant financial difficulties or social barriers to study
- A woman in a non-traditional industry (e.g. automotive, construction)
- A man in a non-traditional industry (e.g. hairdressing and beauty, health services)
- A mature age student returning to the workforce (over the age of 21)
- Suffering from another specified disadvantage
In partnership with the State Government’s Advance Queensland strategy, TAFE are also offering an additional 35 Advance Queensland – TAFE Queensland Pathways Scholarships, also of $5000.
These scholarships will help students obtain qualifications that will allow them to pursue their chosen careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) industries.
Applications for scholarships will close on Thursday, August 31.
