Getting ready for a trip to the United States … from left, Kingaroy Dance Academy students Kaitlyn Hannessen, Stevee Stead and Lucy Crumpton

Students at the Kingaroy Dance Academy have been working hard for the past four months to raise funds for a dream trip to the USA … and on Saturday night they want to make you laugh.

This week they spent hours cleaning table grazing platters in preparation for Saturday’s Comedy Night at St John’s Lutheran School Hall.

This work was in addition to the young dancers’ regular sausage sizzles, weekly raffles at the Kingaroy Bowls Club, and Saturday meat trays at Kingaroy’s Carrollee Hotel, which they carry out in addition to their regular dance practice.

In March this year 22 dancers from the Academy were invited to dance in the Disney Christmas Parade in the USA.

It is the first time a South Burnett dance school has been invited to dance at Disneyland.

The dancers, who range in age from seven to 18, will also be performing at Universal Studios and on Hollywood Boulevard, as well as participating in dance workshops.

The children will fly out of Australia on December 7.

But at an average cost of $3500 per student, getting them there won’t be cheap.

Hence the fundraising … but the students are hoping Saturday’s Comedy Night will help them get towards their target a little faster.

Comedy Empire will be bringing professional comedians Nick Johns and Fiona McGary to the South Burnett, along with a special guest comedian.

All three have performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and they promise guests a rib-tickling night of laughter and fun.

In addition to the show there’ll also be table grazing platters, a lucky door prize, raffles throughout the night and a licensed bar.

Tickets are $35 and can be pre-ordered from Eventbrite, but some will also be available when the doors open at 7:00pm (show starts at 8:00pm).

A $10 per head bus will be running from Murgon to Kingaroy and picking up at all towns in between, but tickets for this need to be booked in advance by phoning Jessica on 0438-056-944 or Mei-Lin on 0438-041-372.
