Rollout schedules for mobile phone towers to be built under Round 2 of the Federal Government’s $220 million Mobile Black Spot program have been released.
Communications Minister Fiona Nash said the 266 Round 2 base stations across Australia were expected to be completed by October 2018.
However she said the rollout schedules were “indicative” and could be subject to change.
“As a farmer from central NSW, I understand what it’s like not to have mobile coverage, and to stand on one leg on a gate trying to get it,” Minister Nash said.
“The Coalition is delivering 765 mobile phone towers to regional Australia, with more to come … 76 towers will be built in Queensland as part of the Round 2 funding.”
The database of reported mobile black spot locations closed for new nominations in January last year.
This information was then provided to mobile phone network operators to help them prepare their funding proposals for Round 2.
