Kumbia Progress Association president Stephanie Stevens

One of the last acts planned by the Kumbia Progress Association before it folds at the end of the month was a project to replant some of the missing trees in the avenue at the northern entrance to town.

Association president Steph Stevens told southburnett.com.au in April that the KPA had been the group responsible for originally planting 100 trees, and the group wanted to replace the 26 of those that had died over the years.

“KPA decided to replace them as one final gift to the Kumbia community before we close,” Steph wrote in the latest edition of the Kumbia Party Line.

“After months of planning, sourcing the correct trees, pick-up and delivery of same, buying fertiliser, good soil, mulch, digging the holes, planting the trees, staking them and watering them, some low-life thought it a good idea to steal eight of (the) 26 Brachychiton acerifolium. How pathetic!”

“We urge everyone to be vigilant and be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour.”

If anyone has spotted eight Brachychiton acerifolium (Illawarra Flame Trees) suddenly appearing on their neighbour’s property, they should ring Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800-333-000.
