After a bumper yarding of almost 1400 at the annual Weaner Show and Sale in Murgon on May 5, numbers were back to 400 at Murgon’s latest fortnightly sale on Tuesday.
Hoewever the market was generally firm for all descriptions based on the quality of the yarding.
Cattle for the sale were drawn from Mundubbera, Gayndah, Nanango, Kingaroy, Kilkivan and locally.
- Bullocks topped at $2174 at $2.75/kg
- Heavy Bulls sold to $2.61/kg and $2510
- Heavy Cows over 500kg sold to $2.33/kg and averaged $2.21/kg, with the best returning $1520
- Cows 400-500kg topped at $2.21/kg and $1090, averaging $2.06/kg
- 447kg Droughtmaster steers from D & S Sippel of Redgate sold for $3.13/kg returning $1400
- 485kg Brahman cross steers from G & M Dent of Gayndah sold for $1514 at $3.12/kg
- 466kg Charolais cross steers from B & M Sanewski of Goomeri sold for $1403 and $3.01/kg
- Charolais cross weaner steers from Campbell & Dawson of Wondai sold for $1102
- Droughtmaster cross steers from R Svenson, Nanango sold to $1010 at $3.22/kg
- Charbray weaner steers from Emjay Charbray’s of Tansey sold for $3.29/kg returning $976
- 272kg Charolais weaner steers from N. Sarquis of Kingaroy sold for $906 and $3.33/kg
- Droughtmaster cross weaner steers from Nanango sold for $935 and $3.32/kg
- A line of light Bazadais cross weaner steers from Balgree Grazing, Goomeri sold for an average of $3.65/kg and $640, topping at $706 and $3.80/kg.
- Droughtmaster cross heifers from D. Vine of Hivesville sold for $1157 and $3.10/kg
- 368kg Droughtmaster heifers from Moffatdale sold to $1105 at $3.00/kg
- 252kg Charolais weaner heifers sold for $787 at $3.12/kg
- Weaner heifers from Emjay Charbrays sold for $759 and $3.09/kg and $829 at $2.93/kg
- A run of 170kg Bazadais cross weaner heifers from Balgree Grazing sold to $538 at an average of $3.05/kg
The next fortnightly sale will be held on Tuesday, May 30.
