Two projects put up by the South Burnett Regional Council and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council for funding under Round 3 of the State Government’s Building our Regions program have been short-listed.
Minister for State Development Dr Anthony Lynham said on Sunday that 127 projects had been shortlisted across the state.
The two local projects will now compete with these for a share of the $70 million on offer.
“It is pleasing to see the variety of shortlisted projects,” Dr Lynham said.
“Detailed applications will open shortly, and all councils will have to demonstrate compelling reasons for their projects to gain funding.”
The detailed applications will undergo a rigorous assessment process by the Department of State Development and an advisory committee of senior Queensland Government executives.
The funds come from the government’s $375 million Building Our Regions infrastructure program, which is reinvesting mining royalties in regional Queensland.
So far, $150 million has been allocated to 93 critical infrastructure projects, supporting almost 1300 jobs.
The projects are attracting a further $275 million investment from councils and other organisations.
Dr Lynham said he expected successful projects to be announced in mid-2017, with construction of the projects expected to start no later than April 30, 2018.
The South Burnett Regional Council has applied for funding for the Blackbutt Memorial Hall Redevelopment, and Cherbourg for the third stage of its Materials Recovery Facility recycling plant.
