Some of the water flowing through the channel in Kingaroy’s Memorial Park on Thursday at lunchtime … with this sort of rainfall, it’s no wonder that sporting grounds are too soft to play on

Fortunately Cyclone Debbie doesn’t appear to have damaged much local infrastructure, but she has definitely tossed a spanner into local sports competitions.

Futsal

The first to be postponed was Thursday night’s South Burnett futsal grand finals for Youth and Minis. There is no word yet on a new date to wrap up the summer season.

Cricket

The B Grade cricket grand final between Murgon and Cherbourg, due to be played at Murgon Showgrounds on Saturday, has been postponed to next Saturday (April 8).

A Murgon Club spokesman said it was just too wet for the pitch to be prepared in time.

Soccer

The first of Football South Burnett’s planned “Super Saturdays”, which would have seen all South Burnett soccer teams in action at Tom Alford Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday, has also been cancelled.

Training in many different football codes was also cancelled on Thursday and Friday.

Campdrafting

Campdrafting has also been affected.

The Proston Golden Spurs, which was scheduled for April 8-9, has now been moved forward a month to May 6-7 and nominations will now be accepted up to April 28.

The Campdraft Committee announced the change at 8:30pm Friday night.

Rugby League

However, the hardy junior rugby league players will still be in action on Saturday.

Trial games for U6s, U8s, U10s and U12s will be played at T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy from 9:00am.
