The South Burnett Regional Council advised on Wednesday it is continuing to monitor the weather forecast for ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, which is now tracking south as a tropical low.
“The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a Severe Weather Warning this morning,” Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff said.
“This revised forecast is for damaging winds and heavy rainfall across our region, along with other areas of the State.
“The South Burnett region could receive 150-200mm of rain, predominantly during Thursday March 30, based on the current forecast.
“This rain is expected to have cleared through our area by Friday morning, March 31.”
Residents are advised to continue to observe warnings issued by BOM at bom.gov.au, and to be prepared for the impacts of minor to moderate flooding in the region.
“This may result in some road closures and fast flowing water over floodways and some bridges,” Cr Duff said.
“Motorists are reminded not to drive in floodwaters – if it’s flooded, forget it.”
Local Disaster Coordinator Russell Hood said residents who want sandbags for dwellings in known low lying areas of the region that have previously been subject to flooding should call the SES on 132 500.
Anyone in a life threatening situation should dial 000 immediately.
