There should be a law against it … going around in public with a mauve moustache, that is.
Last year Murgon businessman Mark Smith had his mo shaved off to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation’s annual World’s Greatest Shave promotion.
But this year he opted for a more colourful look, although perhaps it was an offence against good taste and fashion.
Constable Russell Alexander, from Murgon Police, certainly didn’t hesitate on Friday when it was suggested Mark should be locked up for his “crime”.
This is the 10th year that radio station CROW-FM has organised a Shave For A Cure event outside Mark’s shop in Lamb Street, Murgon.
Passers-by were invited to have their hair shaved or coloured for a donation.
This year colouring was the most popular choice with local hairdresser Alicia Pidgeon, from Alicia’s Spa and Hair Worx, kept busy with her spray cans.
Not surprisingly, because it was St Patrick’s Day, green was a popular choice of colour.
Another local resident – who had his car entered in the Murgon Show on Saturday – also opted for green, but this was to match the duco on his Kingswood!
Alicia said there had also been quite a few people dropping off donations as they went by, but declining to have a change of hair colour.
CROW-FM announcers Chris “Corky” Corcoran and “Shaz” Birkett did live on air crosses from the World’s Greatest Shave site throughout the morning.
