Work to upgrade Murgon Hospital’s Emergency Department is scheduled to begin next week.
Murgon Hospital director of nursing/ facility manager Julie Kelly said patients and staff would benefit from the upgrades.
“The Emergency Department works have been designed to provide a more user-friendly workspace, which will allow staff to move quickly and easily around the room when dealing with emergency cases,” Ms Kelly said.
“The works will include the relocation of power points, benches and emergency equipment, which will give our team more room, and help us with improved workflow, which means we’ll be better equipped to provide the most effective care possible.
“The Murgon Hospital Auxiliary has been very supportive of the upgrade and has kindly donated trolleys and storage equipment which will be used when the works are finished.
“The scheduled start date is Monday, March 20, and it is anticipated the works will take around two weeks to complete.”
Ms Kelly said there would be a temporary reduction in the number of beds for the duration of the works, but this was necessary to allow the work to be completed as soon as possible.
“In the event that we have an unexpected increase in inpatient numbers, patients may be admitted to Kingaroy or Cherbourg hospitals,” she said.
