The Reef’n’Beef Extravaganza has been running for an amazing nine years … serving up seafood and roast beef to a horde of a revellers in the (almost) middle of nowhere.
As in other years, people trekked from all over the South Burnett – and places more distant – to join in the feast at the tiny Ironpot Hall, south-west of Kingaroy.
When Reef’n’Beef began, it was confined to the hall but it quickly outgrew this space so marquees are now erected every year in front of the hall.
The organisers of Reef’n’Beef are Team Ironpot, a not-for-profit association that was formed by a group of motorcycling friends after the death of a mate, Dave Schmidt, during the 2008 Finke Desert Race near Alice Springs.
Reef’n’Beef was created as a community fundraiser with money raised used to help associations in the Ironpot area.
Team Ironport member Sonya Henschen said on Saturday night that numbers were down a little on last year, but the organisers were still “very happy” with the bookings.
