ABC News is reporting that more contamination has been found near the underground coal gasification site formerly operated by Linc Energy near Chinchilla.
According to the ABC, flammable levels of hydrogen have been found near the site.
The hydrogen is not believed to be in explosive concentrations but landholders have been encouraged to exercise caution.
The State Government has been enforcing a 314sq km “excavation caution zone” around the old Linc plant, with landholders urged to take care before digging any deeper than two metres.
Linc Energy and five former executives are currently facing environmental charges in relation to the UCG operation.
[UPDATED with correction. An earlier version of this report said landholders were “banned” from digging; the caution zone actually urges individuals wishing to excavate to take precautions.]
