Kingaroy Art Gallery … Sculpture competition winners will be announced on Saturday

February 28, 2017

Entries have been received from from Victoria, NSW and across Queensland for Kingaroy’s inaugural $10,000 Sculpture prize.

Kingaroy Arts Team president Wayne Brown said interest in the competition had exceeded the expectations of organisers.

“We are so happy with the level of response we’ve received,” Wayne said.

“Entries have come from across Australia and offer a great diversity of mediums and subject matters.

“We will see entries using traditional sculpture materials such as marble, bronze and wood as well as those that draw upon recycled and repurposed materials, acrylic and porcelain.”

The $10,000 prize is the largest ever offered for a single event on the South Burnett arts calendar.

The competition includes an Open Award prize of $7000 and a $2000 prize for the Local South Burnett Award.

There will also be an Encouragement Award of $1000.

Prominent Queensland sculptor Dr Rhyl Hinwood AM will judge the competition on Friday (March 3).

Winners will be announced at 11:00am on Saturday at the Kingaroy Regional Art Gallery in Haly Street, opposite the peanut silos.

All of this year’s entries will be on display at the gallery until March 29.
