The Kingaroy Blue Light disco quietly celebrated its twentieth birthday in July last year, largely thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers.
The popular event – which caters for children aged from prep to Year 11 – runs on the second Friday of each month during school terms at Kingaroy Town Hall.
Blue Light discos are drug, alcohol, chewing gum and tobacco free, and closely supervised to ensure children are safe at all times.
Last weekend Kingaroy police, Blue Light Disco committee members and regular volunteers were recognized with certificates and commemorative awards for their continued service and dedication.
In all, 10 awards were handed out for service to Blue Light ranging from 3 to 20 years.
John Knopke is the only original Blue Light Disco member still on the committee, and he was given a Diamond Life Member award for his two decades of service.
Kathy Jamieson and Debbie Cox both received a Sapphire Life Membership award for 15 years of service.
And Sara Bliesner received a Life Membership award for 10 years service.
The Blue Light Committee meet regularly to organize safe and fun nights out for children.
Anyone who’d like to volunteer to help should contact Kingaroy police on (07) 4160-4900.
