An elderly woman was airlifted to hospital after a single vehicle accident on the Burnett Highway near Booubyjan on Monday morning.

The woman driver, aged in her 70s, became trapped in her vehicle after it swerved off the highway and into a ditch.

The incident occurred between the intersections of Ross Road and Neaavie Road at Booubyjan.

The vehicle also contained a male passenger.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service were first on the scene, cutting the woman free by removing two door and providing initial medical treatment.

The male passenger sustained no apparent injuries but was transported by ambulance to Murgon Hospital for observation.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter was despatched to the incident from the Sunshine Coast at 10:10am.

Due to limited access at the crash site, the crew landed the helicopter in a farm yard about 300m away.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue crew transported the woman to Nambour Hospital, after taking precautions in case she had suffered any spinal injuries.

She travelled in a stable condition.
