Bargain hunters keen to snap up a work by one of their favourite artists and homeowners looking for something nice to hang on their walls are getting ready for the region’s largest art sale.

Wondai Regional Art Gallery’s “Under The Bed” art sale allows artists to sell surplus works they have stored away and art collectors to snap up treasured items at a bargain price.

Last year’s sale of artworks, pottery and jewellery from regional artists attracted a record 400 items, and the sale was so big it was held at Wondai Town Hall.

This year it will be held in the Wondai Regional Art Gallery next to Wondai’s roundabout but Gallery curator Elaine Madill is confident there’ll still be a huge assortment of artworks to choose from.

The Gallery has been temporarily closed since January 13 to allow Council workmen to carry out refurbishment of the building’s roof.

But it expects to be back in business by January 31 so it can begin hanging artworks.

This year’s “Under The Bed” art sale will be launched on Friday, February 3 at 6:00pm.

As usual, it will be accompanied by finger foods, wine tastings from a South Burnett winery, live music and a display of artwork by a local school (Tingoora State School) in Kidz Korner.

Admission is $5 and everyone is welcome.

After the opening, sale works will remain on display from 10:00am to 4:00pm daily until close of business on Sunday, February 26.

Footnote: An exhibition by local artist Lee Barker had also been scheduled. Sadly, a recent fire destroyed his artworks.
