Blackbutt and Benarkin residents can breathe a bit easier – and stop boiling water … the E coli scare is over.
And it looks like it was all a false alarm.
South Burnett Regional Council announced on its Facebook account on Saturday afternoon that the boil water alert was lifted.
“The Office of the Water Supply Regulator has approved the lifting of the ‘boil water alert” for Blackbutt and Benarkin Town Water Supply Area after two consecutive negative test results,” an anonymous spokesperson wrote.
“It appears that the original sample that tested positive for E coli was a contaminated sample and not indicative of the quality of the water.
“Initiating the ‘boil water alert’ provided an extra layer of protection whilst the failed sample was verified.
“This means that residents do not need to be concerned about the quality of water and that town water supplied within Blackbutt and Benarkin is safe to drink.
“Residents no longer need to boil water before drinking the town water in Blackbutt and Benarkin.
“Council understands that this has been a stressful time for some residents and appreciates the patience of water users while the failed sample was verified.”
