Residents at Cinnibar, Gordonbrook, Maidenwell, Tansey, Tingoora and Windera will benefit from improved mobile phone coverage under Round 2 of the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said new mobile phone base stations were being constructed by either Telstra (Tansey, Windera) or Optus (Cinnibar) at eight locations in his Wide Bay electorate, including three in the South Burnett.

“The extension of the mobile phone network to these areas will improve communications and assist locals, emergency services and visitors to our region,” he said.

The locations for Round 2 of the Mobile Black Spot Program were selected following an appeal to the public.

“The new base stations were identified by people in the community who nominated black spot locations,” Mr O’Brien said.

Including co-contributions from carriers and State Governments, Round 2 represents a total new investment of $213 million towards improved mobile coverage across Australia with 266 new or upgraded towers.
