South Burnett Mayor Keith Campbell will no longer attend meetings of the Southern Queensland Country (SQCT) regional tourism board.
At a special meeting held last Wednesday to adopt the Council’s 2015-16 Annual Report, Mayor Campbell stepped down from the role of being Council’s representative on SQCT’s Board of Directors.
His place will be taken by Cr Danita Potter.
Mayor Campbell said while he believed tourism was an important part of the region’s economy that had the potential to create many jobs over time as it developed, he thought there were other areas where he could be more effective.
“I only have the same number of hours in my day as everyone else,” the Mayor told southburnett.com.au.
“I need to look at where my time is best spent, and right at the moment there are other projects that demand my attention.
“However I’m sure Cr Potter will be a very good representative for our region and I have every confidence she’ll do a great job.”
At this Wednesday’s ordinary meeting, Mayor Campbell also stepped down from his position on the Burnett Inland Economic Development Organisation (BIEDO).
BIEDO was established in 1996 by the South and North Burnett councils, community and industry activists concerned about the impacts of drought.
It has evolved into an independent, not-for-profit organisation that works to build resilience and provide support for businesses and individuals within rural communities in both council areas.
Mayor Campbell’s shoes will be filled by Deputy Mayor Kathy Duff.
Cr Ros Heit will continue in her role as the Council’s second BIEDO representative.
