Swickers will resume its abattoir operations on Wednesday afternoon, Sunpork Group CEO Dr Robert van Barneveld has confirmed.
Pigs will start being delivered to the site from 5:00am on Wednesday with the first kill at 1:00pm.
Dr van Barneveld also confirmed the ammonia decanting operation on Tuesday afternoon – which briefly led to an exclusion zone being put back in place around the plant – was largely complete.
“The site is safe and any residue removal will be undertaken as required,” he said.
He said arrangements had been made to bone off-site near Ipswich.
“We are in the process of establishing a housing facility on site for all staff,” Dr van Barneveld said.
“We will work with staff to ensure arrangements for off-site work can be accommodated. As promised, our alternative arrangements will allow us to maintain our current workforce.”
