A 17-year-old Booie man has been fined $1137 after he was caught speeding by Gympie Police at the weekend.

The teenager was intercepted at Branyan driving at 101km/h in a 60km/h zone.

“Seventeen is the age of many Year 12s who will soon complete their high school years,” Senior Constable Danielle Loftus said.

“It’s also an age where people are eligible to drive independently in a vehicle, which may later become a deadly weapon.”
