The Ration Shed Museum at Cherbourg has been successful with another funding application … this time under the Federal Government’s Community Heritage Grants Program.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the $12,585 would allow the Ration Shed Museum to buy conservation, storage and archival materials and preserve objects of national significance in the local community.

“The Ration Shed Museum is a significant regional and cultural asset that does great work in the community,” Mr O’Brien said.

“It is important that we support the Ration Shed to enable the story of Cherbourg and its people to continue to be told.

“The Community Heritage Grants Program provides grants of up to $15,000 to community organisations such as historical societies, museums, public libraries and galleries to document, preserve, digitise and display collections and objects of national significance.

“In 2016-2017 the Community Heritage Grants program will provide organisations with over $400,000 in grants, supporting over 70 projects across Australia.”

The program is supported by the Department of Communications and the Arts with four of Australia’s cultural institutions: the National Library of Australia, the National Archives of Australia, the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Museum of Australia.
