Former Kingaroy Red Ant Lane Ferling was named FOGS Colts Challenge Player of the Year at the 2016 QRL Awards on Wednesday night.
Ferling received his trophy at a glittering function at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane.
Ferling plays five-eighth for Norths Devils U20s, and also captains the team.
It’s been a big year for Ferling and Norths.
The team finished fourth on the ladder in the Colts competition, earning themselves a spot in the finals.
Norths Devils will now take on the Burleigh Bears – who finished in fifth spot on the ladder – on Saturday afternoon in a sudden-death semi-final at Kougari Oval in Manly West.
This is Ferling’s second season with Norths.
It’s been a busy two years for the former Kingaroy State High School student who is studying at QUT.
Last year he was selected in the Australian Universities rugby league team which toured New Zealand.
The Aussies played two Tests against NZ Universities, and narrowly won both.
“They won by two points in both games, It was nail-biting for the parents watching,” mum Robyn said.

Hot on the heels of the news that North Queensland has signed up former Red Ant Marcus Jensen for two years, comes the revelation that another Kingaroy product is being eyed off by the Cowboys.
Logan Bayliss-Brow, who has played this season with Burnett White in the Toowoomba Rugby League U18s competition, has joined the Cowboys’ development squad and will be moving to Townsville within months.
He will be the third former South Burnett resident currently connected with the Cowboys.
Ex-Mustang Gavin Cooper is a second-rower in their A Grade squad.
