Wondai’s Army Cadets are on the lookout for a new commanding officer.

A community information session will be held at the Wondai Army Reserve Base next to Wondai Hospital in Bramston Street on Sunday (August 28) at 3:00pm.

In 2014, the future of 135 Army Cadet Unit Wondai looked uncertain when there was a difficulty locating community volunteers to fill senior roles at the unit.

After a series of meetings, a last-ditch push to keep the unit open was successful.

11 Battalion Commanding Officer Major (AAC) Peter Schneidewin said the situation was not so dire this time around as the other senior positions at the unit were now filled.

“We just need a leader now to drive it,” he said.

The position does not require previous military experience, although a background working with a youth organisation such as Scouts or SES Cadets could be useful.

“But the major thing is that they are a leader of people, someone that can run a team,” Major (AAC) Schneidewin said.
