Kingaroy police are concerned that a recent drug-driving blitz in town detected six drivers – including a pregnant woman and woman with a baby in her vehicle.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said six people had been issued with notices to appear in court to face charges of drug driving after the blitz on August 4-5:

  • A 33-year-old woman in Fisher Street allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine and cannabis
  • A 28-year-old woman in Haly Street allegedly tested positive to methamphetamine
  • A 21-year-old man in Youngman Street allegedly tested positive to cannabis
  • A 43-year-old woman in Jarrah Street allegedly tested positive to cannabis
  • A 34-year-old woman on the Bunya Highway heading into Kingaroy allegedly tested  positive to cannabis
  • A 22-year-old man in Haly Street allegedly tested  positive to cannabis

Snr Sgt Frank said it was especially concerning that one of the women charged had a seven-month-old baby in her vehicle, while another was in the late stages of pregnancy.

“She was not only disregarding her own safety and the safety of other road users, but was also disregarding the safety of her unborn child,” Snt Sgt Frank said.

“The results are also alarming because the offences were detected during the day on busy roads in town, and some in the morning not long after school had begun.”
