An elderly man suffered serious burns in a single vehicle crash near Mt Binga on Thursday evening.
A police spokesman said initial investigations suggest the man was travelling north along Middleton Road – which runs off Pierces Creek Road – about 6:45pm when his car left the road, crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
The 85-year-old male driver was the sole occupant.
A passerby pulled the man from the wreck.
A QAS spokesman said Army personnel on the scene assisted the man until emergency services – including police, ambulance and fire brigade – arrived.
An RACQ LifeFlight helicopter was called to the incident and airlifted the man in a serious condition to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate the cause of the crash.
