Police have confirmed the victim of Thursday night’s fatal crash east of Mt Binga National Park was an 85-year-old Blackbutt resident.

The man was travelling home along Pierces Creek Road when his vehicle left the gravel, hit a tree and burst into flames.

He was pulled from the wreckage of his burning car by an Army cadet on a night helicopter patrol and then flown by an RACQ LifeFlight helicopter to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

He later died of his injuries.
