The South Burnett Regional Council has given the go-ahead for the development of a 44 unit retirement village near Kingaroy’s CBD.

At Wednesday’s monthly meeting, Councillors were told Salt Enterprises Pty Ltd was seeking development approval to build a modern retirement village on a 5-acre block between Markwell Street and Logan Road.

The company proposed building 17 dwelling units in the first stage of the project; 12 more units in the second stage; and a further 15 units in the final stage.

The gated complex would feature a mix of one, two and three-bedroom units, along with communal facilities.

Plans for the complex were lodged in February this year, and public objections were canvassed until April.

The block that will house the project was purchased almost 12 months ago.

However, sources told southburnett.com.au the purchase was conditional on Star Enterprises gaining Council approval for the retirement village, so settlement only occurred a few weeks ago.

Salt Enterprises has successfully developed several previous projects in the Kingaroy area.

Council officers recommended development approval for the project be granted subject to usual conditions.

No commencement date for the project has yet been set.
